Comic Relief

To the tune of “Centerfield” by John Fogerty

Eighteen to zip, all Dodger blue
The pitcher’s turn to bat
D-backs pinch-hit, there’s no one in the pen.
Bob Brenly says, “I’ve used four guys,
Don’t want to waste one more.”
That’s when the old first-baseman waves his hand.

[Chorus]
Put me in, Coach, I’m ready to pitch, tonight.
Put me in, Coach, I’m ready to pitch, tonight,
Look at me, I can be
Comic relief.

Left-hander Grace comes in to pitch
With Reboulet to bat
Mike Fetters-like Grace scowls toward the plate
He makes his pitch, a fly to right.
“Hey Sutcliffe, this ain’t hard!
I threw one pitch and now there’s one away!”

[Chorus]

A ground ball, foul, Up high, a ball
A fly to shallow left
Ruan’s retired, Grace got the first two out.
Now up comes Ross, the pitch, it’s gone
His first big-league home-run
Off Grace (not something great to brag about)

[Chorus]

Now Houston’s up, outside, a ball.
He fouls off strike one,
A wicked breaking ball, he takes strike two
A pitch outside, another high.
Pop up to shallow right,
And that’s the third out, now the inning’s through

[Chorus]
Put me in, Coach, I’m ready to pitch, tonight.
Put me in, Coach, I’m ready to pitch, tonight,
Look at me, gotta be
O-oh! Put me in, Coach, I’m ready to pitch, tonight.
Put me in, Coach, I’m ready to pitch, tonight,
Look at me, I can be
Comic relief.

Proud to Be an Astro

You know that I’m a pitcher, my living’s on the mound
I work to get our team a win when my turn comes around.
I keep those runs from scoring, I strike those hitters out
Of one thing there isn’t any doubt.

[chorus]
I’m proud to be an Astro, to be on Phil Garner’s team.
Playing in the big leagues has been my life-long dream.
I started in the minors, but now I’m here to stay.
I’m proud that they give me the chance to play.

You know that I’m a hitter, my bat and I are one
I drive in all my teammates I score a lot of runs.
I’ll take a walk if offered, I often hit it out.
Of one thing, there isn’t any doubt.

[chorus]

You know that I’m a fielder, I’m out here with my glove.
Reaching out to make the catch is something that I love.
I always hit the cutoff man, I throw those runners out.
Of one thing, there isn’t any doubt.

[chorus]

You know I’m in the bullpen, I’m waiting for the call.
I’ll give you some good innings if you just give me the ball.
I’m warmed up and I’m waiting when you take the starter our.
Of one thing, there isn’t any doubt.

[chorus]

You know I’m in the dugout, for when you have the need
For someone with more power, or someone with more speed
Although I’m not a starter, you can’t just count me out
Of one thing, there isn’t any doubt.

[chorus]
